Traditional Granola

4 cups quick oats
1 cup rolled wheat flakes
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup wheat germ
½ cup coconut
1 tsp cinnamon
½ cup vegetable oil
¼ cup water
1-2 tsp butter flavoring
1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 225 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine quick oats, wheat flakes, brown sugar, wheat germ, coconut and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, combine vegetable oil, water, butter flavoring and vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ones. With clean hands, thoroughly mix the ingredients until well combined. Spread the mixture into a 9”x13” in pan or several pans if needed. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 20 minutes, or until the granola is dry and lightly browned. Remove from oven and cool completely before adding banana chips. Toss well to combine and store in an airtight container.

*Note: for fine and flaky textured granola, replace the water in the recipe with oil and stir immediately after removing from the oven. For a chunkier texture, use more water and less oil, stir less while baking, and let set till partially cooled after removing from oven before stirring.
