Chocolate Chip Granola


4 cups quick oats
1 cup rolled wheat flakes
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup wheat germ
½ cup vegetable oil
¼ cup water
1-2 tsp butter flavoring
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup chocolate chips


In a large bowl, combine quick oats, wheat flakes, brown sugar and wheat germ. In a separate bowl, combine vegetable oil, water, butter flavoring and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredient mixture over the dry ingredient mixture. With clean hands, thoroughly mix the ingredients until well combined. Spread the mixture into a 9”x13” pan or several pans if needed. Bake for one hour, stirring every 20 minutes, or until the granola is dry and lightly browned. Remove from oven and cool slightly. Add the chocolate chips and toss well to combine. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

*Note: For fine and flaky textured granola, replace the water in the recipe with oil and stir immediately after removing from the oven. For a chunkier texture, use more water and less oil, stir less while baking, and let set till partially cooled after removing from oven before stirring.
